To get a head start with your woodland creation and management in myForest, you can import geospatial files. As well as saving time, importing mapping can be a great way to ensure mapping consistency and accuracy.
When importing, you should bear in mind the following limitations:
KML files must not contain more than one folder. You can check this by opening the file with a text editor. If you see more than one instance of the word Folder enclosed by < > then it wil not work. Be aware that some apps and programs, such as Avenza, may create KML files with multiple folders if you have multiple layers set up.
Shapefiles must not contain multi-polygons. This is a technical term for the way certain data is stored in shapefiles, and will not affect performance in most cases.
The file must contain valid projection settings. This relates to the way points are spread across a curved plane. EPSG:4326, EPSG:3857 and EPSG:27700 are common projections.
Files must not contain invalid geometries. These include polygons where the boundary crosses over itself.
Importing files that do not comply with the above will generate errors. You should check the source of the file to eliminate any issues.
